INVITATION

The Brent Launch OF " Living History " Friday 16th April 1999 from 7.00pm . 12 midnight at Studio 59 The Willesden Green Library Centre. 95 High Road Willesden. London NW10.

The TIC-FORM Partnership in conjunction with Brent Council brings you an exciting evening of entertainment, education and culture in the first in a series of networking events in the " Living History's " Initiative. If you are someone that is looking for an alternative and unique form of cultural entertainment then I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of and invite you to the Brent launch of " Living History " at Willesden Green Library Centre's Studio 95.

"Living History" is an innovative concept which aims to celebrate Black people's contributions to cultural diversity, health and the economy in Britain in the run-up to the Millennium through a series of music, arts and cultural activities including network meetings, music concerts, festivals, exhibitions, awards, competitions, seminars and workshops etc. Although London will be the centre for much of " Living History's " main activities our aim is to collaborate with promoters and leading community organisations across the UK to promote other focus events.

Black music forms the backdrop for " Living History's " activities particularly Reggae, the African-Caribbean's most outstanding music artform. A generic term used to describe all forms of popular music that developed in Jamaica since the late 1950's Reggae has radically changed the way that much of popular music is produced today. Over the past three decades Reggae music has made a considerable impact on the lives of Black people in Britain providing them with a vital link to their cultural roots.

A press and media conference will open the event at 7.00pm followed at 8.30 with a presentation charting the historical development of Reggae music and the people who created it. Stars of music, sport, entertainment and the media are being invited to the launch. The highpoint of the evening will be " The Black Millennium Debate ". Fielding a panel of some of the UK's top Black community leaders and business professionals, the debate will explore Black people's role in and the challenges us for the 2nd Millennium.

The evening's programme includes PA's and performances from veteran Reggae acts including Winston Francis, Macka B, Earl 16, Jesse Green, Super Sas, Lascelles James and the Status Crew with up and coming youth artists.
