THE Managing Director
Mervin Jarman .... grew up in Clarendon, Jamaica. Growing up in a post-colonial Jamaica his world view was from repeated unemployment and a lack of opportunity for himself and the people around him. During this time he engaged himself in learning media arts. His discontentment with the lack of opportunities and poverty that surrounded him led him to developed a space for public access to media realising its importance in mobilising local initiatives, he organised several local-media initiatives around local issues which allowed him to build a considerable knowledge of community related production.
In 1990 he moved to London where he continued to practice as a video artist. His increasing frustration at the heavy cost and difficulty of distribution of video art/activism led him to enrol Artec course in 1995, at that time ran by Harwood. Its here that he first got a taste for how transformative this technology could be. He left at the end of the year as a multimedia designer working on commercial projects such as "Letts Educational CD-ROM", electronic publishing for Kingston Publishers and worked on music sites for Jampro which was presentations at MIDEM 97 "Reggae Rocks Cannse"
